Never leave a fire or hot stove unattended
Drown, stir, and feel ashes until they are cold before bed or departure

Check the forecast for camp, trailhead, and driving route
Pack a rain shell, insulating layer, and dry socks
Bring sun protection: hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses
Keep a warm layer and blanket easy to reach in the vehicle
Make a weather exit plan for wind, lightning, heat, or heavy rain

Leave no trace

Pack out every bit of trash, food scraps, and micro-trash
Use established trails and campsites whenever possible
Respect quiet hours, wildlife, and neighboring campers
Use campground facilities or follow local waste-disposal guidance
Leave the site cleaner than you found it

Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return
Fuel up, check tire pressure, and charge your phone and power bank
Download maps and save emergency contacts for offline access
Confirm reservations, entry rules, and local conditions
Do one final sweep for food, trash, and a fully cold fire ring
